Kustaw Bessems is digital editor of de Volkskrant, The Netherlands’ leading quality newspaper. He is in charge of their digital strategy and spearheads the web editors as well as Kijk Verder, the department for online storytelling. In an effort to take De Volkskrant’s journalism to a new audience and prepare the organization for possibilities in years to come. He was formerly a reporter, political correspondent, editor of his paper’s Saturday background and opinion section and a commentator for radio and tv. Kustaw has authored several books, the last one a self help guide for politicians. He is one of The Netherlands’ most influential tweeps and a staunch defender of free speech.
